After teaching 7th-grade math for 34 years, I retired. It was time to have new adventures and try new things.
I’d always been fascinated with horses and riding but afraid to try it. I set up a lesson – and spent it outside the barn afraid of getting too close to the horse! After several more lessons, I managed to get on the horse and walk around a bit. My instructor stopped giving lessons, so I searched for another barn and instructor.
Six years ago, I found the perfect instructor and situation – Laura Rocha at Baker School of Riding in Phoenix, New York. It’s been a slow road, but I now love it and feel confident on the horse.
My first Century Club horse, Quincy, passed away so I started riding Rosie. She is a sweetheart, and we’ve bonded. She’s very patient with me and has helped me progress.
My instructor mentioned The Dressage Foundation and their Century Club. It was way beyond my dreams, but with a very patient instructor and a great horse, I was able to do it! Support from fellow riders and non-riding friends alike made this event great fun and a proud moment for me.
