I was born a horse lover into a family that had no animals at all. When I was four years old, my parents took me to the rodeo in St. Paul, Oregon. I wanted to leave the rodeo with a horse.

I had a few opportunities to ride horses. I bought my first horse at 18 as a high school graduation present. She was a four-year-old green mare bred to an Arabian. My dream of owning and riding horses began.

My riding was self-taught until I was able to take a class in English riding at the University of Oregon. After that, I learned through clinics and occasional lessons.

Fast forward to 1999 when I purchased a five year-old Arabian mare, Sunhi Mizchip. As a member of the Chehalem Mountain Chapter of the Oregon Dressage Society, I continued to attend clinics and take occasional lessons. I showed Mizchip some at Intro and Training Level until she showed signs of dropped pasterns.

In 2008, I purchased Bailey from a rescue organization. He was said to be an eight-year-old Morgan/Quarter Horse cross with some dressage training. Bailey and I struggled to connect until I began working with Francy Haupt who worked with both of us. I am so thankful for Francy, and I would not be here today without her help.

Bailey and I showed at ODS League shows until COVID, including one year at First level.

We enjoyed camping and trail riding also. I have truly enjoyed my 59-year journey with my horses, and I am blessed to join the Century Club at the age of 77 years young.
